Here we are. The top image is the core of one of my new paintings called Faith. The lower image shows how the canvas is stretched over varying lengths of wood in bunches and ties. I stretched the canvas back in Oxford, it was that long ago. For what feels like eons, it was a planning chart with time columns and rows for tasks. I was actually planning, amazingly and amusingly, to do a Project Management Gantt chart of Salvation History. As you do. It was fine with the creation myth in the top left, indicating the first action which would lead to the rest. But my word, you can’t grid out Salvation History. It rolls out as needed. The basic flaw was that I couldn’t allocate personnel ! :-) Was it Creator? Jesus? Spirit? A combination? None of them but an earthly leader? Clearly, when you add into the mix the issues of myth, exaggerated history, embellished activity, hindsight written as foresight, well the whole thing fell apart.
So now we have all of this bursting colour of activity with no time frame whatever. Upright splodges of varying colours indicate sources of faith learning - books, scrolls, people, encounters. All held up by the light and energy of Divine Love. Faith rolls out as needed and embeds itself as it is welcome. You can see the whole thing for real at my exhibition starting on October 4th, next month. More details later :-)
