It’s amazing really. The conversations around the artwork have been so telling. Each piece has said something deep, often on a very different tangent than I anticipated. I love that. Artwork can speak on its own no matter what an artist intends or hopes when it is being created. When people see new things it means a good deal to me.
Another bonus being here is that Pete and I are physically here. With the artwork. When we toured Open to All and Spirit Justice, let alone all the other exhibitions I’ve had in various churches and galleries, we arrived on hanging day, set things up, stayed for an opening event, then left. We didn’t turn up again until it was over, or ending, and then heard happy reports of what other people said. We were hearing second hand and reading the comments in the visitors book. All great to read, for sure. But here, we decided to steward the exhibition ourselves. It’s made a difference that it’s in our home town and we wanted to take up the opportunity to listen Australians about how my artwork lands on the other side of the planet and it a very different culture. It seems to land well. We’ve been visited every day and the artwork continues to sell. We are delighted.
